MPs have filed a proposal asking the government to pay bonuses to the national handball team and honour the players after their win at the Islamic Solidarity Games.
The proposal was submitted by MPs Jaleela Alawi, Mohammed Al Olaiwi, Mahmoud Fardan, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Qarata and Ahmed Al Salloom.
The explanatory note says the victory placed Bahrain’s flag on the podium and showed the team’s ability to compete for titles in regional and international events.
The MPs say the result fits the state’s aim of raising the profile of Bahraini sport beyond the Gulf.
Al Sayed said the request was made on an urgent basis, calling for financial rewards and suitable recognition for the team.
She said action should come quickly to back the players and encourage young Bahrainis to keep pushing for results.
The proposal also argues for clear, direct ways to reward athletes soon after major wins, saying this approach would help teams prepare better for future tournaments and build a stronger culture of recognition in sport.
