Ministry Orders Dissolution of Inactive Groups

Ministry of Social Development has ordered the compulsory dissolution of several registered civil society organisations that had remained inactive for extended periods.

The move follows a review of organisations that had stopped their activities and were unable to hold general assemblies for lengthy periods, the ministry said.

Before taking action, the ministry gave the organisations an opportunity to regularise their status. They were invited to contact the Civil Society Organisations Support Directorate, update their records and complete the required legal and regulatory procedures.

Several organisations responded and began correcting their status and fulfilling the necessary requirements. Others, however, remained inactive and failed to respond after the deadline expired.

Minister of Social Development Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi issued Ministerial Decision (57) of 2026 ordering the compulsory dissolution of the organisations covered by the completed review process.

The ministry said the review of inactive organisations will continue, with further action to be taken where necessary in line with applicable laws and regulations.

It will also begin liquidation procedures for the organisations covered by the decision and complete all legal requirements arising from their dissolution.

The ministry said the measures aim to improve the efficiency and organisation of Bahrain’s civil society sector and ensure that registered organisations remain active and fulfil the roles and objectives for which they were established.
