Life term for bid to smuggle heroin

A Pakistani man, who tried to smuggle two kilograms of heroin into Bahrain has been jailed for life. The defendant is said to have stashed the illicit drug in two slippers that he was wearing and a back bag.

He was nabbed at the Bahrain International Airport last May while he was trying to enter Bahrain with the heroin.

He was coming from Karachi and completed all the formalities ahead of leaving the airport, according to court files. He was reportedly spotted by a Customs officer, who felt suspicious of him.

“When I saw the slippers they were looking higher than normal. So I referred him for inspection. My colleague examined his luggage and belongings by the x-ray machine, and found abnormal objects stashed in his slippers as well as in back bag,” the officer told prosecutors.

“The total weight of the seized heroin was almost two kilo grams,” the officer added.

The defendant also failed in a drug test, as his saliva was found to be containing hashish.

The Pakistani defendant  admitted to consuming hashish during interrogation as well as attempting to smuggle heroin into the Kingdom of Bahrain.
