Fifth High Criminal Court of Appeal ordered a psychiatric evaluation of a Bahraini man convicted of fraud after he used a replacement SIM card to access a businessman's Benefit account and steal BD2,490.
The 36-year-old was previously sentenced to three years in prison and fined BD3,000.
Prosecutors said he exploited a limited power of attorney while the victim was abroad to obtain a replacement SIM card linked to the businessman's phone number. He used verification codes received on the SIM to access the victim's bank accounts and transfer BD2,490 to his own account and his daughter's account.
The appeal court ordered the psychiatric assessment to determine whether the defendant was criminally responsible for his actions before proceeding further.
