Gulf Sovereign Funds Step Up Joint Investment Coordination
The third meeting of the High-Level Coordination Committee of Deputy Heads of Sovereign Wealth Funds, or their equivalents, in the GCC states took place in Bahrain. Officials focused on strengthening cooperation and advancing joint investment initiatives across the region.
The meeting was chaired by Khalid Taqi, Director General of Local Investments at Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, and attended by Khalid bin Ali bin Salem Al-Sunaidy, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Development Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat, along with representatives from all GCC member states.
The meeting builds on the Al-Ula Declaration issued by the GCC Supreme Council at its 41st session, which called for encouraging joint projects and promoting the localisation of Gulf investment.
It also follows the decision of the GCC Ministerial Council at its 164th session, held in Kuwait in June 2025, approving the duties and responsibilities of the High-Level Coordination Committee of deputy heads of sovereign wealth funds, or their equivalents, in the GCC states.
During the meeting, members discussed the committee’s work plan and mechanisms for implementing its responsibilities. They also exchanged views on a plan to strengthen cooperation among sovereign wealth fund institutions across the GCC.
The committee further reviewed a memorandum from the GCC General Secretariat concerning the decisions and directives of the GCC leaders at their 19th consultative meeting, in addition to a report on measures taken in implementation of previous decisions and directives.
