Bahrainis who lose their passports abroad must report the loss to police before seeking help from an embassy or consulate, the Foreign Ministry has warned.

Travellers should obtain a police report and take it to the nearest Bahraini mission, which can issue the papers needed for them to continue their trip or return home.

The guidance was issued as part of the ministry’s summer travel campaign.

Citizens should show any proof of identity they have when visiting the embassy or consulate. Staff will then arrange an emergency travel pass or a new passport, depending on the case, and work with the relevant state bodies.

A replacement passport can also be sought through Bahrain’s eGovernment portal. Applicants can have it sent to a chosen address or to the embassy, with the process taking fewer than 10 working days.

Those unable to apply online can file their request through a Bahraini embassy or consulate and choose where to collect the new passport.

The ministry told travellers to check that their passports remain valid before leaving Bahrain and to keep both paper and digital copies. Passports should not be left unattended in public places.

Citizens were also urged to save the phone numbers and contact details of Bahrain’s embassy or consulate in the country they are visiting.

The Foreign Ministry has published contact details for Bahraini missions in several countries on its social media pages and other channels to help citizens seek aid while overseas.
