As part of his official visit to the United States, Lieutenant General Tariq bin Hassan Al Hassan, Chief of Bahrain's Police and Chairman of the National Committee for Civil Emergency Management, conducted a comprehensive field tour of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Academy on July 7, 2026.
The visit, which followed high-level meetings with NYC Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore, offered the Bahraini delegation a first-hand look at one of the world's most advanced firefighting training institutions. The tour allowed Lieutenant General Al Hassan and accompanying officials to examine the Academy's specialised training facilities in detail, gaining direct insight into the methods and standards used to prepare New York's firefighters.
The delegation was briefed on the Academy's state-of-the-art equipment and modern systems, which support rigorous, scenario-based training across a wide range of emergency situations. Particular attention was given to the facility's realistic simulation infrastructure — purpose-built environments that immerse firefighting recruits and veteran personnel in lifelike emergency scenarios, from structural fires and hazardous material incidents to high-rise evacuations and mass casualty events.
The tour underscored Bahrain's keen interest in benchmarking international best practices in firefighter preparation and civil defence readiness. Officials from both sides exchanged views on how such simulation-based methodologies could inform future training programmes within Bahrain's civil protection framework.
