Bahrain youth star Hassan Abdulkadir has been selected to take part in the Basketball Without Borders Next Up 2026 camp in Istanbul, Turkey, from August 26 to 29.

The four-day programme, organised by the NBA and FIBA in collaboration with the Turkish Basketball Federation, will bring together 80 of the leading high-school-age basketball prospects from around the world.

Abdulkadir’s selection comes after a series of impressive performances for Bahrain at youth level and gives the youngster an opportunity to train alongside some of the game’s most promising talents.

“I was very excited when I got the email,” Abdulkadir said. “I’ve seen a lot of videos online about the camp, and I’ve seen that there are a lot of experienced coaches who are going to be there.

“I’m excited to learn from them and connect with the other players who are going to be at the camp.”

The inaugural Next Up format will be held at the Basketball Development Centre in Istanbul and will feature athletic testing, skill-development sessions, 3x3 and 5x5 competitions and life-skills seminars.

A host of current and former NBA and FIBA players and coaches are set to be involved, including Kenny Atkinson, Vlade Divac, Danilo Gallinari, Brook Lopez, Khris Middleton and Jalen Suggs.

Abdulkadir expressed his gratitude for the support he has received throughout his development.

“I want to thank Bahrain for always supporting me and the Bahrain Basketball Association for always being there for me throughout my journey,” he said.

“I also want to thank HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice-President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, for always supporting me.”

His participation continues Bahrain’s representation at Basketball Without Borders camps, following Mustafa Hussain Ali’s appearance at BWB Asia in Tokyo, Japan, in 2019.
