Summer Outdoor Work Restrictions Take Effect Monday
Outdoor work under direct sunlight banned from noon to 4pm until August 31
Bahrain’s annual midday work ban will come into force on Monday, June 15, as part of efforts to safeguard workers from extreme summer temperatures, the Ministry of Labour announced.
The regulation, issued under Edict No. (5) of 2026, will remain in effect until August 31. During this period, employers are prohibited from requiring employees to work in open outdoor areas under direct sunlight between 12 noon and 4pm.
The ministry said the measure aims to ensure a safe working environment and protect workers from heat stress, sunstroke and other health risks associated with high temperatures and humidity. It also seeks to reduce occupational accidents during the peak summer months.
To support implementation of the ban, the ministry has launched an awareness campaign that includes educational workshops for occupational safety officers and supervisors in private sector establishments. Guidance materials and awareness messages will also be distributed to promote preventive measures against heat-related illnesses and the dangers of prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
The Ministry of Labour has designated hotline 17873921 for reporting violations and observations during the ban period. Reports can be submitted by phone between 7am and 4pm throughout the week or via WhatsApp using the same number.
The ministry warned that employers found violating the regulation could face penalties including imprisonment of up to three months, fines ranging from BD500 to BD1,000, or either of the two penalties. Sanctions increase according to the number of workers affected and are doubled for repeat offenders.
