The High Criminal Court of Appeal upheld a lower court ruling sentencing a 34-year-old Egyptian man to one year in prison and ordering his deportation after serving his sentence, following his conviction for assault and theft linked to a financial dispute that originated on the social media platform TikTok.

According to court records, the accused developed a friendship with a 30-year-old Bahraini woman through TikTok. The relationship later evolved into financial dealings after the woman lent him BD750. Tensions arose when the man repeatedly delayed repaying the debt.

The woman told investigators that she had recorded an audio message in which the accused acknowledged owing her the money. However, he later asked her to delete the recording. The disagreement eventually led to a meeting between the two in Juffair.

During the encounter, the man allegedly stole the woman's iPhone 16 Pro Max, slapped her twice, and used a knife to injure her thigh while trying to force her to reveal the device's passcode. After obtaining access to the phone, he fled the scene.

The victim reported the incident to authorities, who later arrested the suspect. During investigations, the accused admitted to selling the stolen phone and accessing its data. Police also recovered a knife from his possession at the time of his arrest. Court documents further indicated that the man had previous criminal cases on record.
