A 54-year-old Indian expatriate injured in a serious road accident in Bahrain has finally returned home to India after months of medical treatment and uncertainty.

Subba Lakshmumma, from Andhra Pradesh, flew from Bahrain to Chennai on Friday as part of a humanitarian repatriation effort involving community activists, volunteers, hospitals, and diplomatic support. She was accompanied by a volunteer and is being transferred by ambulance to Andhra Pradesh for further treatment and rehabilitation.

Lakshmumma had been hospitalised since October 2025 following a major accident that left her with severe neurological complications and unable to communicate properly.

The repatriation was coordinated by the Pravasi Legal Cell along with volunteers and social organisations. Support also came from the Embassy of India in Bahrain, Salmaniya Medical Complex, and Muharraq Geriatric Hospital.

Throughout this challenging process, the Pravasi Legal Cell (PLC) Bahrain Chapter, led by Sudhir Thirunilath, provided relentless logistical and emotional support, coordinating documentation and repatriation procedures. The PLC extended its heartfelt gratitude to Governing Council member Mrs. Spandana Kishore and Working Committee members Mr. Faisal Pattandi, Mr. Sabu Chirammal, and Mr. Gangadhar Rao for their tireless, round-the-clock efforts.

A breakthrough came after a care foundation in Andhra Pradesh agreed to take responsibility for her lifelong care and rehabilitation.

Activists said efforts to pursue compensation related to the accident may continue once her health condition improves.
