Parliament is set to debate a government bill on Tuesday that would raise the threshold for ministries and public bodies to independently manage tenders to BD50,000, amid efforts to modernise procurement rules.

Under the proposal, the current BD25,000 cap for ministries would double to BD50,000, while fully state-owned companies would see their ceiling rise from BD50,000 to BD100,000.

The Tender Board said the amendments aim to address gaps in the existing law and reflect rising costs locally and globally, noting that current limits no longer align with procurement practices.

The bill also introduces provisions for contracts executed abroad, allowing exemptions in certain cases subject to Cabinet approval, while requiring oversight and reporting to the Tender Board.
