Bank to pay BD9,000 to ex-staff

An international bank operating in Bahrain has been ordered to pay one of its former employees $24027 (BD9,000) after sacking him.

The plaintiff sued his former employer on grounds of wrongful dismissal after a six-year-long tenure, but the High Labour Court declined the accusation despite ruling in his favour.  The employee was shown the door because the bank decided to restructure after suffering from huge losses, and judges found it a valid reason.

However, the court underlined that the employer failed to pay the full amount of the end of service benefits and also didn’t settle the unused leave compensation.
