Expats in Bahrain showed strong loyalty and deep feeling for the kingdom during the Iranian attacks, Dalal Al Zayed, head of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee at the Shura Council, said in an interview with Bahrain TV.
She condemned the strikes as war crimes and said they hit civilian areas and key infrastructure.
Al Zayed said the response from residents stood out in the aftermath of the attacks.
She spoke of the large number of expats who, she said, had shown loyalty and heartfelt concern for Bahrain during the strain.
Authenticity
“We were surprised by the number of residents who demonstrated a number of principles of loyalty and authenticity,” she said.
Many of them, she added, “grieved for the situation in Bahrain more than we grieved for losing things that passed in their lives”.
She said Bahrainis and residents had stood together behind the leadership, and praised the reassurance given by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Calm
Their words, she said, had helped bring calm to people across the country.
“The people of Bahrain stand solidly and firmly with the leadership,” she said, adding that both citizens and residents had played their part in protecting the country.
She also pointed to the role of residents on the national volunteering platform.
Turning to the attacks themselves, Al Zayed described them as “gross and blatant attacks” and said they amounted to ‘war crimes’ under international law.
Breach
She said they breached the UN Charter, international humanitarian law and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
She said the strikes amounted to a “violation of the principle of state sovereignty” and a “breach of the principles of good neighborliness”.
Missiles and drones, she said, had been fired into civilian areas, causing damage to infrastructure and public facilities.
