New Traffic Cameras to Boost Safety in Hamad Town and Janabiya Road
The Northern Municipal Council has approved measures to enhance traffic safety through the installation of security and monitoring cameras in key areas of Hamad Town and Janabiya Road.
Council members agreed to recommend installing cameras inside the tunnels at Roundabout 6 and Roundabout 14 on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway. The proposal, submitted by council member Abdullah Al Dosari, aims to strengthen monitoring in these busy tunnel passages, which are vital transit points for residents. Members highlighted that the cameras would help improve traffic discipline, record violations, and support quicker emergency responses in cases of accidents, vehicle breakdowns, or fire hazards.
In addition, the council reviewed a ministerial response regarding plans to install security and speed monitoring cameras along Janabiya Road, covering Roads 91, 92, and 93 toward Salman City. The response confirmed that two camera locations are scheduled for 2027, with seven more planned for 2028 as part of the General Directorate of Traffic’s expansion plan. The phased rollout is designed to address speeding and traffic violations gradually while aligning with the national traffic strategy.
Council members emphasized that both measures focus on preventive safety, aiming to reduce risks before incidents occur. The initiatives reflect the council’s broader commitment to protecting public safety, enhancing driver awareness, and ensuring smoother traffic flow for daily commuters in Hamad Town and along major connecting routes.
