Court Jails Woman for Three Years in Human Trafficking Case

The Head of the Public Prosecution for Trafficking in Persons has announced that the First High Criminal Court has sentenced an Asian woman to three years in prison after convicting her of human trafficking and exploitation.

The court also imposed a fine of BD2,000 and ordered the defendant to bear the costs of repatriating the victim to her home country. In addition, the court ruled that she be permanently deported from the Kingdom of Bahrain upon completion of her sentence.

According to the Public Prosecution, the case began after a report was received from the Anti-Human Trafficking Directorate at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science. The report indicated that confidential sources had provided information that the accused had brought the victim into Bahrain and exploited her in unlawful activities.

The Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation upon receiving the report. Prosecutors recorded the victim’s testimony, in which she detailed the exploitation she endured. The defendant was also questioned and confessed to the charges brought against her.

Police were assigned to conduct further investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case. Upon completion of the inquiry, the defendant was referred to the High Criminal Court, which subsequently issued the aforementioned ruling.
