Traffic Authority Says Current Truck Ban Hours on Khalifa Bridge Are Sufficient

The Muharraq Municipal Council has received an official response from the General Directorate of Traffic regarding its proposal to extend the ban on truck movement during peak hours on Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Bridge in Hidd.

In its response, the Traffic Authority confirmed that the current timings for restricting truck movement on the bridge are adequate and do not require any changes at this stage.

Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Traffic, Brigadier Mohammed Al Darrag, explained that trucks are banned during morning peak hours from 6:30am to 8:00am, and in the afternoon from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, as per the decision of the Traffic Council.

He said the authority believes these hours are sufficient and sees no need to extend or amend them at present. The aim of the restrictions, he added, is to balance traffic flow, reduce congestion, and shorten travel time for other road users, while still allowing trucks to operate during non-peak hours to avoid overcrowding on roads.

Brigadier Al Darrag also noted that the timings were set after considering transport needs, development projects, and commercial, construction, and industrial growth. He stressed that these measures are part of the authority’s policy to ensure smooth traffic movement while taking into account the interests of all road users.
