Manama: A man in his twenties has been sentenced to three years in prison by the First High Criminal Court for assaulting a female colleague by throwing hot water on her, causing a permanent disability assessed at five per cent.
The incident occurred following a dispute between the defendant and his Asian colleague at a café over the delivery of an order. The argument escalated when the accused physically assaulted the woman, striking her and knocking her to the ground before other staff intervened and separated them.
According to court records, after the altercation appeared to have ended, the accused called the victim from behind, prompting her to turn toward him, at which point he threw hot water from a container used for preparing orders onto her face. She was taken outside the café by co-workers, but the accused continued to pursue her and struck her on the head again with the water heater.
In her statement, the victim said the dispute began when the accused refused to assist her at work, leading her to close his account at the cash register. She said she was later assaulted without warning and believed the matter had ended after staff intervened, before the hot water was thrown on her face.
The accused admitted to the incident during Public Prosecution investigations. He was charged with deliberately causing permanent disability and assaulting the victim by beating and strangulation, as well as persisting with the attack after being stopped. Medical and forensic reports confirmed the burns and injuries sustained by the victim.
