MP calls the world to save besieged Syrian village

Bahraini lawmaker demanded the international community to take effective measures to save the people of the besieged village of Madaya in Syria from  starvation.

MP Mohammed Al Jowder warned in a press statement yesterday, “Any deceleration in providing aid to the people of the village of Madaya would result in one of the worst humanitarian crisis.”

Al Jowder blamed the Iranian-supported Syrian regime for the ongoing disaster, commenting that “situations are very serious, especially that children are dying of hunger in front the world.”

“For six consecutive months, the regime and its supporters from Hezbollah and other terrorist militias have been giving empty promises that they will allow delivering aid consignments inside the village,” the MP claimed.

He added, “Hezbollah recently announced that it’s supporting the Syrian regime by besieging the village of Madaya. This shame will follow the Syrian President Bashar Al Assad throughout the history, as he’s utilising terrorist militias from outside his country to kill his own people.”

By the end of his statement, the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee member called Iran to change its policies in the region.

Al Jowder commented:  “Arab and Muslim countries should unite against the extremist and terrorist ideologies of the so-called Iranian revolution and its attempts to spread sectarianism in the region.”

According to the latest international reports, Madaya’s 40,000 residents have been besieged by regime and Hezbollah forces since July, forcing many people to eat boiled leaves or even cats and dogs.  At least 23 people died of starvation last month and aid agencies say there are likely to be more deaths in the coming days, in addition to 13, who were killed while escaping the village in search of food.

The United Nations and the Red Cross Organisation announced that aid and foodstuff are likely to enter the village today. However they called for more international efforts to prevent situations there from deteriorating.
