Trump aides seek to keep Iran war ‘quiet’ until November elections

Washington: Top aides to US President Donald Trump are working to keep the Iran war from escalating ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, citing concerns that the unpopular conflict will harm Republican candidates.
The administration presently prefers economic pressure and sanctions to a major expansion of military activities. Officials at the White House have suggested that military action may be increased following the elections, though a return to full-scale conflict seems unlikely.
The plan is already under strain, however, as the United States and Iran launch tit-for-tat attacks. Recent US assaults on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz have been followed by Iranian missile attacks on US-linked positions in the region.
Vise President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are among the senior authorities apparently supporting efforts to keep the issue under control until November. However, Iran's ongoing attacks, combined with Trump's own threats of revenge, may make it tough to maintain that strategy.
