His Majesty underscores Bahrain’s commitment to developing farming and livestock sectors

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has emphasised the Kingdom of Bahrain’s strong commitment to supporting and developing the agricultural and livestock sectors as essential pillars of national development.

He made the remarks during the opening of the eighth edition of the Bahrain International Show (Mara’ee 2025) at the Bahrain International Endurance Village, highlighting the importance of food security.

HM the King commended government programmes and initiatives under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, aimed at enhancing food security, agricultural innovation, and the livestock industry.

His Majesty awarded competition winners and supporting organisations, acknowledging contributions from the Royal Guard, participating companies, and regional partners.

Dedication

He reiterated the Kingdom’s dedication to advancing the agricultural and livestock sectors and commended the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture for promoting innovation and modern technology.

HM King Hamad also lauded the success of Mara’ee 2025 in supporting local businesses, enhancing agricultural quality, and encouraging investment.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was welcomed by His Excellency Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and senior officials.

Support

H.E. Al Mubarak, in his speech, highlighted HM King Hamad’s continuous support for sustainable agriculture and the preservation of the Kingdom’s agricultural heritage.

He noted: “His Majesty’s vision regards agriculture not only as an economic sector but as a national responsibility that supports food security, environmental sustainability, and future requirements.”

The Minister also praised HRH Prince Salman’s directives, stating that they “drive our efforts to strengthen national food security and expand initiatives that benefit Bahraini farmers and breeders.”

Projects

H.E. Al Mubarak outlined the Ministry’s ongoing projects aligned with national directives, including expanding green coverage, planting over 600,000 trees, and cultivating mangroves to support biodiversity and combat climate change.

This year’s exhibition featured, for the first time, a dedicated pavilion for mangrove trees, recognising their ecological significance.

The Minister also highlighted national achievements in agricultural excellence, noting Bahrain’s recognition by the Arab League with the Arab Government Excellence Award for empowering communities through agricultural training.

Initiatives

Strategic initiatives include the Government Land Investment Platform, which has allocated over 1.2 million square metres of land to support local production, the establishment of a plant genetic resources bank, and the launch of an international dates observatory in cooperation with Saudi Arabia.

The opening ceremony showcased traditional art, equestrian displays from Bahrain and Azerbaijan, and cultural performances.
