Three men who stole a gas cylinder and, according to case papers, struck a building guard with a metal rod will challenge their jail terms at the High Appeals Court on 20 October.

Two received three years each and a third one year after a raid on a residential block. The trio arrived by car, the third at the wheel.

The second floated the idea of taking a cylinder.

They climbed the boundary and went inside, where they loosened the valves on three cylinders owned by a company, intending to remove them.

The guard stepped out after hearing noises and was told to keep quiet.

He retreated to his room, but the first and second followed.

One carried a metal rod, threatened him and struck him three times on the shoulder.

They searched the room, took the guard’s wallet and removed BD10, seized his phone and left with the rod. Outside, the third lifted a cylinder into the car boot and they drove off.

The cylinder was later sold for BD25 and the money shared. Police arrested the men and they were sent to court, which handed down the above terms. The men have appealed and the case returns to court on 20 October for the hearing.
