Entrepreneurial Energy Unleashed at BIS Commerce Week
Bhavans-Bahrain Indian School’s (BIS) Commerce Department recently celebrated Commerce Week, an initiative designed to nurture students’ entrepreneurial spirit, business acumen, and real-world learning. The week-long event showcased BIS’s dedication to providing experiential learning opportunities that extend far beyond conventional classroom teaching.
The celebrations began with an insightful workshop on “Emerging Modes of Marketing”, conducted by Grade 12 students. Demonstrating a strong grasp of the dynamic marketing landscape, students engaged their peers through interactive presentations, case studies, and group discussions, effectively bringing theoretical concepts to life. The workshop highlighted the importance of innovative thinking, strategic planning, and effective communication in today’s business world.
A major highlight of the week was an educational visit to the Central Bank of Bahrain. Students explored the Bank’s Coin Museum and gained firsthand insights into the evolution of Bahrain’s monetary system and financial institutions. The visit offered a unique opportunity to understand the practical functioning of economic systems and financial governance, enriching students’ comprehension of national and global commerce.
Adding a competitive edge to the celebrations, the Young Entrepreneurship Competition: BIS Shark was held, modeled on the internationally renowned Shark Tank format. Students showcased their entrepreneurial talent by pitching innovative business ideas to a distinguished panel of judges.
Further engaging the school community, students prepared for a series of promotional activities culminating in the grand finale: ‘Homemade Food Stalls – BIS Souq’. The school campus transformed into a vibrant marketplace, featuring student-run stalls offering a diverse range of homemade culinary delights, including the popular Fresh Zone. Combining creativity, skill, and practical business planning, students managed sales through both pre-orders and on-the-spot purchases, creating an organized yet lively marketplace experience. All proceeds from the event were donated to the Cancer Society.
The Directors, Mr. Himanshu Verma and Mrs. Ritu Verma, praised the initiative. “This week demonstrates BIS’s commitment to experiential learning and holistic education. By combining entrepreneurship, critical thinking, and social responsibility, our students are being prepared not just for academic success but for meaningful contributions to society,” said Mr. Himanshu Verma.
“Commerce Week at BIS is more than a celebration of business education. It is an opportunity for students to apply classroom learning in real-world scenarios, develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and foster a sense of ethical responsibility. Our goal is to inspire students to think critically, act responsibly, and contribute positively to society,” added Mrs. Ritu Verma.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Mr. Saji Jacob expressed his pride in the students, stating, “Commerce Week is a shining example of how our students embrace creativity, leadership, and ethical responsibility. Their enthusiasm, innovation, and teamwork have truly brought business concepts to life, and I am immensely proud of their achievements.”
