Council Adds Prayer Space at Sitra Corniche

Families, joggers, and children often enjoy the Sitra Causeway walkway at sunset, but prayer times have long posed a challenge. Visitors frequently had to leave, find a quiet corner, or cut short their evening because no nearby facility existed.

That is set to change. The Capital Municipal Council has approved a dedicated prayer facility at the Sitra walkway and corniche, complete with ablution areas for men and women. The move responds to repeated public requests for convenient prayer spaces.

Councillors highlighted that the waterfront attracts large crowds at times that often coincide with prayers. The new facility will help athletes, elderly visitors, and families enjoy the area without interruptions.

The prayer area will be thoughtfully placed within a main gathering spot, keeping the open feel of the walkway intact. The council emphasized that public spaces should meet both physical and spiritual needs, reflecting how people live and enjoy their daily lives.
