AGC Kicks Off 2025-2026 Season with Bill Brien Trophy

The 2025-2026 season at AGC got off to a spectacular start today with the traditional Bill Brien Trophy, a Stableford competition that honors the club legend known for his charm, grace, and ever-present rose for a lucky lady.

Morning players battled the intense humidity, which eased as the day progressed, making for a more comfortable afternoon on the course.

The prizes were presented after a delicious dinner by Captain Steve Newall and Vice-Captain Balbir Singh.

Continuing her excellent form from last season, Susan Scott claimed the prize for the best lady.

In the men’s competition, Gérard van Gerwen finished 7th with 35 points, edging five others on countback despite a rocky start that saw a 10-meter drive on the first hole. Andy Doherty secured 6th place with a steady 36 points, while Mohamed Sultan Faraj took 5th with 37 points, thanks to an impeccable front nine of nine consecutive pars.

Chaitanya Kodange finished 4th with a better 37 points, and Jasper Meinema claimed 3rd with a hot putter delivering 38 points. Rehman Tipu, runner-up with the same 38 points, showcased the results of dedicated summer practice.

The day belonged to Matthew Deakin, who combined precision and flair to score 39 points, including a near-perfect shot on hole 6 and a stunning 30-foot putt on the final hole that also earned him the longest putt prize.

It was a day of skill, camaraderie, and celebration, marking an exciting start to another promising season at AGC.
