Accedes to the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties

His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today deposited the instrument of accession of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties (1969) with the United Nations. The ceremony took place during the UN Treaty Event held at the organization’s headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly.

The instrument was formally handed over to H.E. Ms. Ellinor Hammarskjöld, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs.

Minister Al Zayani affirmed that Bahrain’s accession to this important international convention reflects the Kingdom’s steadfast commitment to supporting the framework of international law, promoting multilateral cooperation, and upholding the legal principles governing relations between states. He stressed that this step contributes to strengthening the foundations of international peace and security.

The deposit ceremony was attended by H.E. Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaiei, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, H.E. Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director-General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the accompanying delegation.
