Bahrain Launches Initiative to Enhance Special Education Standards
Dr. Mariam Hassan Mustafa, Chief Executive of the Education & Training Quality Authority (BQA), highlighted the authority’s ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of educational and training institutions, particularly those serving students with special needs. She emphasized the adoption of supportive policies aimed at strengthening a competitive education system that prioritizes quality, inclusivity, and excellence for all students.
Dr. Mustafa pointed to Decision No. (55) of 2025, which introduced the General Framework for Reviewing Special Education Needs, describing it as a key step toward advancing inclusive education in Bahrain.
She added that the authority has begun implementing the framework, marking the launch of a project to review the performance of special education institutions across the Kingdom.
“The Special Education Performance Review project responds to the growing importance of the special education sector,” Dr. Mustafa said. “It is a cornerstone for building an inclusive and stimulating learning environment for students with special needs. The framework also represents a crucial step in promoting innovation and ensuring the highest quality standards across educational institutions in Bahrain.”
Dr. Mustafa further explained that the project is a top priority within the BQA’s 2023–2026 strategy and is a pioneering initiative in the region. It aligns with international best practices in special education, focusing on high-quality, inclusive learning environments that support students’ overall development and foster a love for learning and innovation.
