100% Bahraini nurses in primary health centres
For many Bahraini families, the first reassuring face they meet in a clinic or health centre is often a nurse. Increasingly, that face belongs to a Bahraini professional trained to serve the community during its most vulnerable moments.
The government affirmed that qualified Bahraini professionals remain the first choice for employment in the health sector, particularly for medical and nursing positions, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Bahrainisation and develop national healthcare talent.
The statement came in a government reply submitted to Parliament regarding a proposal to raise the Bahrainisation rate in nursing at Salmaniya Medical Complex and health centres to 100 percent.
Framework
The government explained that the development of healthcare services in the Kingdom is guided by an integrated legislative and regulatory system. This includes the National Health Insurance Law issued under Law No. 23 of 2018, which aims to ensure high quality and sustainable healthcare services.
It added that the Supreme Council of Health, in coordination with the Civil Service Bureau, issued regulations governing employees in government health institutions. These regulations cover recruitment, appointments, promotions, salaries, incentives and allowances, helping organise the sector within clear legal frameworks.
The government also noted that Decision No. 52 of 2021 concerning the regulations for employees in government health institutions applies to all staff members, including both government employees and contracted personnel.
Progress
According to the reply, qualified Bahraini professionals are prioritised for employment whenever vacancies and financial approvals are available. Authorities have already replaced a number of non Bahraini nursing staff with Bahraini nurses in government hospitals.
The government further confirmed that full Bahrainisation has already been achieved in nursing positions at primary healthcare centres, where staffing is 100 percent Bahraini.
These steps, the government said, reflect the continued commitment to empowering national talent while ensuring the sustainability and quality of healthcare services across the Kingdom.
Behind these policies are thousands of Bahraini nurses who stand beside patients in moments of pain, recovery and hope, quietly carrying a responsibility that extends far beyond the hospital corridors.
