Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Aseeri, Chief Executive of the Bahrain Space Agency, participated in a seminar on “Using Artificial Intelligence and Satellite Data for Disaster Response and Risk Reduction,” organized by Planet in collaboration with the American Geographical Information Council.
The event highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to using advanced space technologies to address environmental challenges and natural disasters.
The seminar focused on how artificial intelligence can be combined with satellite data to monitor environmental changes and detect disasters such as floods, wildfires, and earthquakes with greater speed and accuracy. Participants also explored ways to improve disaster response through daily satellite imagery and data analysis, which can help authorities quickly assess damage and manage resources efficiently.
Experts shared successful case studies, including the assessment of wildfire damage in Hawaii and flood impacts in Greece, using advanced mapping and monitoring tools.
“This seminar is an important platform for sharing knowledge on how disaster management is evolving,” Dr. Al-Aseeri said. “Today, space technology and artificial intelligence help us save time, improve decision-making, and ultimately protect lives and infrastructure. Bahrain remains committed to working with international partners to build resilient systems that can face the growing challenges of climate change.”
He also emphasized Bahrain’s dedication to adopting innovative space solutions, including early warning systems powered by AI-analyzed satellite imagery, and strengthening collaboration with leading institutions to enhance national capabilities and support sustainable development goals.
