Easing commutes for families

Public schools should be built in Diyar Al Muharraq to spare families the daily grind of sending their children across town, two MPs have said.
Khalid Buanaq and Hesham Al Awadhi submitted a proposal urging the government to use land already set aside for public services in the area.
They said the current lack of nearby classrooms was forcing residents to enrol their children in schools outside the neighbourhood.
“This causes daily hardship and repeated traffic jams,” they wrote in their explanatory note.
Growth
The area, according to the two MPs, has witnessed sharp growth in recent years.
They warned that public services had lagged behind and that education was among the first to feel the strain.
They argued that land already earmarked for services presents a ready-made chance to build schools without needing to search for fresh plots or carry out expropriations.
“This presents an ideal opportunity to build educational facilities without the need for new site allocations or land acquisition,” the note said.
Attention
They also drew attention to the effects of overcrowding in neighbouring areas.
“Spreading out government schools reduces the pressure on existing schools in nearby districts and improves classroom density.”
The proposal added that placing schools within new housing areas helps encourage families to settle and stay put.
“Putting money into education in new residential communities enhances quality of life and encourages family stability.”
