The expansion of Al Fateh Highway has been completed four months ahead of schedule, marking one of 30 major road projects delivered as part of the government’s infrastructure plan, Works Minister H.E. Ebrahim Al Hawaj announced.

He attributed the swift completion to strong coordination between government bodies and the efforts of ministerial committees overseeing development and infrastructure projects, led by Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

“We have achieved 68% of the government’s programme, covering strategic projects such as the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre, road networks, power grids, and improvements in healthcare and education,” Al Hawaj said.

As part of the roads initiative, four major project packages have been completed, delivering nearly 30 schemes, including new road links and resurfacing of existing routes. Al Fateh Highway stands out as a major milestone, having been finished well before its deadline.

Infrastructure Prioritised

Al Hawaj highlighted that after discussions between lawmakers and ministers, it was decided that infrastructure—including roads, drainage, and municipal projects—would be given top priority.

The works were divided into several phases, including the construction of new roads, widening and resurfacing existing streets, and implementing urgent fixes to alleviate traffic congestion. These urgent improvements were grouped into four packages covering 48 projects, of which nearly 30 have already been completed.

Muharraq Ring Road and Island-Wide Upgrades

Another significant project was the Muharraq Ring Road, where traffic began moving eight months ahead of schedule.

Al Hawaj further noted that roadworks continued throughout the summer, with resurfacing crews improving streets across all governorates to enhance Bahrain’s road infrastructure.
