Trial of witnesses in murder case to be held on Jan. 19

Prosecution witnesses will be heard on January 19 in the trial of a 35-year-old Bahraini man accused in connection with the death of his friend. The defendant is said to have hit his friend on his head with a metal rode, resulting in his death later due to the injury. The incident occurred, according to court files, owing to an argument over stolen spare parts from a neighbouring stable.

The deceased, an alcoholic, is said to have been living in a separate room in his family house in the village of Al Musalla. “We heard a noise and my mother told me to check my brother’s room. When I went there I saw him lying on the ground. I thought he was drunk and taking a nap,” the victim’s brother said in his statement. “Next day, when I went to his room, he was in the same position, motionless.”

An eyewitness informed the police about the embroilment of the suspect after watching him attacking the victim.

The defendant, however, admitted to the attack but ruled out causing the death of the victim. “I was invited by him and another person to drink beer with them in the stable. The next day, I learned that the neighbouring stable was robbed off spare parts, and they told me that he (the victim) and two others committed it,” he said, and claimed that he attacked his friend to extract the truth.
