Mexican former oil boss reports ex-president for corruption

Mexico City

A former Mexican oil boss has accused ex-president Enrique Pena Nieto of corruption in a widening scandal that threatens to engulf part of the country's political class. Emilio Lozoya, who headed the national oil company Pemex from 2012 to 2016 and who had previously worked for Pena Nieto's 2012 presidential campaign, was extradited from Spain in July to face graft charges in Mexico.

As part of his collaboration with the judiciary, Lozoya said that more than 100 million pesos ($4.5 million) were channeled from the Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht into the ex-president's campaign, Attorney General Alejandro Gertz said on Tuesday, without naming Pena Nieto directly.
