Charity trains women in plumbing, electric repairs

Jeddah : The general secretary of a charitable society that cares for productive families in the Kingdom, Issa Anqawi, said the society is in the process of rehabilitating and training 20 Saudi women in the maintenance of plumbing and electrical systems to enable them to enter the Saudi job market.

Speaking to a local publication, Anqawi said they currently are looking for a specialized institute in this field that can grant the trainees certified diplomas so that they can later work in the maintenance of women's facilities.

"Women can also benefit from training in these fields to help them make repairs at their own houses instead of seeking the help of foreign workers who have to enter their homes to perform the work," he explained.

He pointed out that learning such professions will enable women to start their own private businesses, or seek employment in the labor market. He added that these strategic partnerships are aimed at achieving sustainable community development from the perspective of social services and their compatibility with the requirements of the labor market during the next stage of the Kingdom's development.

Anqawi said that so far the society has equipped nearly 1,000 people with certified diplomas from the General Organization for Technical Education and Vocational Training in all areas such as cosmetology, tailoring, carpet manufacturing and fashion accessories.
