Nagoya: Mu Xinyue of China made history at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games by becoming the first woman to win an Asian Games gold medal in eSports, defeating Japan in the Identity V final.
The 20 years old contributed greatly to China's success in the horror-survival game Identity V. After earning her gold medal and hearing China's national anthem, Mu described it as ‘the happiest moment of my life.’
Mu is the only woman on China's 23-person eSports team at the Games. Women remain a small minority in Asian Games eSports, accounting for only 14 out of 534 athletes, or less than 3%.
Speaking after her historic triumph, Mu stated that gender should not define players, emphasizing that rivals, whether men or women, must earn their spot by ability.
The milestone comes three years after eSports makes its official Asian Games debut in Hangzhou in 2023.
