Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has unveiled $200 billion in major energy investments from South Korea, marking an expansive effort to bolster domestic energy production and power infrastructure across the nation.

The largest share involves $120 billion designated for nuclear power projects, which sets aside $100 billion for construction costs and $20 billion in contingency reserves, with $10 billion released by the end of the year.

The agreement also directs $54 billion to a long-discussed Alaska liquefied natural gas project, including an 800-mile pipeline to transport North Slope gas to Anchorage for export. Furthermore, $22.3 billion will build a Texas gas plant supplying 6,472 megawatts to Encinal data centers.

These commitments detail South Korea's progress toward fulfilling a broader $350 billion US investment pledge established under a July 2025 bilateral trade agreement that placed 15 percent tariffs on imported South Korean goods.

This initiative highlights the administration's ‘energy dominance’ agenda favoring fossil fuel and nuclear development over environmental constraints, despite potential headwinds from nationwide skilled trade labor shortages.
