Black Boxes Recovered From Miami Amazon Cargo Crash

MIAMI: Federal investigators have recovered the flight data recorders from an Amazon cargo plane that overran a runway in Miami and struck two vehicles, killing five people, officials announced Monday.

The Sunday accident occurred at Florida's busiest airport when the Boeing 767 jet traveled approximately 1,300 feet past the paved surface. It tore through perimeter fencing, smashing into an airport cleaning-services van carrying seven people and an SUV on a public road before halting near a robotaxi parking area.

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chair Jennifer Homendy described the crash site as devastating. She confirmed that teams secured both the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder, which have been sent for detailed analysis while victim recovery operations continue.

Homendy confirmed that fatalities were limited to individuals inside the two vehicles struck during the collision. NTSB investigators plan to interview the plane's two pilots as recovery efforts progress.

The 1994-built aircraft, operated by 21 Air LLC under contract for Amazon, was completing its third flight of the day from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Response crews remain at the scene to clear widespread debris and handle spilled jet fuel.
