ACT Opposition Leader Admits Sending ‘My Job Is Boring’ Text During Budget Hearing

Canberra: Mark Parton, the Opposition Leader in Australia's Australian Capital Territory (ACT), has admitted sending a private text message saying, “my job is boring," during a budget estimates hearing, but has denied allegations that it was sent to a sex worker.

The controversy began after an anonymous complaint alleged the message had been sent to a sex worker. However, the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly's standards commissioner dismissed the complaint, and Parton rejected the allegations as false.

Speaking to reporters, Parton confirmed he sent the message but refused to identify the recipient, describing it as a private conversation. He said he continued carrying out his parliamentary duties during the hearing and argued that many people send personal messages while working.

The text was reportedly sent during a hearing on plans to redevelop Canberra's Telstra Tower. Parton said he had been working long hours and often multitasks while attending parliamentary proceedings.

Parton has referred the matter to the Australian Federal Police, claiming he is the target of a campaign to damage his reputation. Australian Capital Territory Chief Minister Andrew Barr said he accepted Parton's denial of the allegations and described the issue as a personal matter rather than a political one.
