KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has officially dismissed the country’s ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanishyna, following a major government reshuffle in Kyiv.
The presidential decree comes at a critical juncture for Ukraine, which relies heavily on Washington for crucial intelligence and military aid.
The diplomatic shakeup occurs as Kyiv actively lobbies the United States for additional Patriot air defense systems to block Russian strikes.
In a social media statement, Stefanishyna stated the departure was dictated by "personal circumstances," highlighting her work to sustain American weapons deliveries despite a shifting political climate in Washington.
Stefanishyna, a former deputy prime minister appointed to the post last July, leaves without an immediate successor named. Her dismissal also coincides with reports from Ukrainian media indicating she is currently under investigation by the nation's anti-corruption agency for alleged wrongdoing, though no formal charges have been filed.
