LONDON: Joe Root has been appointed England men's Test captain for a second spell, with former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming named as the new head coach.
The England and Wales Cricket Board announced the leadership duo following the dismissal of Brendon McCullum as Test coach and the international retirement of former skipper Ben Stokes.
Root, 35, previously captained England in 64 Tests from 2017 to 2022 and stands second on the all-time Test run-scoring list. Expressing excitement for his second stint, Root praised Fleming as an exceptional leader. Fleming, 53, arrives with stellar coaching credentials, including leading Chennai Super Kings to five Indian Premier League titles.
England will next host Pakistan in a three-match Test series starting August 19, with Marcus Trescothick serving as interim coach before Fleming takes charge later this year. McCullum will remain in charge of England's limited-overs teams.
