UAE entrepreneur creates friendship-saving app

Dubai: After more than three decades in the UAE, expatriate Sahil Hameed has created Ember, a mobile app that helps individuals maintain great friendships before they go away.
Hameed said that the idea was inspired by the pain of losing contact with a close friend and then going through the same struggle himself during a period of depression. To make reconnecting simpler, he developed an app that gently reminds users to reach out before the gap turns into silence.
Unlike typical social media sites, Ember allows users to explicitly add friends, specify how frequently they wish to communicate, and receive periodic notifications when a connection need care. The app also allows users to record conversations, meetings, and memorable activities, with all data kept on the user's device for privacy.
Hameed hopes the app will help fight loneliness and inspire people to cultivate real-world relationships, believing that friendships, like glowing embers around a campfire, only require a little attention to stay burning.
