Syria, Kuwait Agree to Deepen Diplomatic and Economic Relations

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to discuss strengthening bilateral relations through enhanced diplomatic, trade, and investment cooperation.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to establish a joint coordination committee, work toward exchanging ambassadors, and create a Syrian-Kuwaiti Business Council to boost economic collaboration, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

Al-Shaibani also condemned recent Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states following the renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran in early July. He reaffirmed Syria's support for Kuwait and its commitment to respecting the country's sovereignty.

On Monday, Al-Shaibani also held talks with Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in Kuwait City. The discussions focused on regional developments and ongoing efforts to enhance security and stability across the region.

Kuwait has supported Syria's gradual reintegration into the international community since the fall of Bashar Assad's government in December 2024.

In a further sign of improving ties, Kuwait Airways recently resumed direct flights between Damascus and Kuwait City for the first time in 14 years. The service follows Jazeera Airways' inaugural flight to Syria in late June, which landed at Aleppo International Airport.
