US Issues Global Travel Alert Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

Washington: The US State Department has issued a worldwide security advisory for American citizens, warning that rising tensions in the Middle East could lead to sudden security threats, travel disruptions and possible attacks on US interests overseas.

The advisory urges Americans, particularly those in the Middle East, to remain alert and prepare for possible flight cancellations, temporary airspace closures and other travel disruptions. Travellers have also been advised to monitor updates from US embassies and consulates, follow local authorities' guidance and stay informed through reliable news sources.

The State Department said Americans outside the Middle East should reconsider travel to and through the region, citing the risk of further escalation. It also warned that US diplomatic missions and locations associated with the United States could face threats from Iran or groups aligned with it.

The advisory comes as tensions between the US and Iran have risen again despite the two countries signing a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding last month aimed at ending hostilities. The latest strain follows renewed exchanges over the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about regional stability.
