U.S. Embassy Urges Americans to Avoid Aqaba Airport and Port

The U.S. Embassy in Jordan has advised American citizens not to travel to Aqaba International Airport or Aqaba Port after Jordanian authorities evacuated both facilities in response to what was described as a specific and credible security threat. In a security alert published on its official website, the embassy urged U.S. citizens to follow all instructions issued by Jordanian authorities and reiterated its recommendation to avoid travel to military bases in Jordan. It also noted that the U.S. Department of State had previously ordered the departure of non-essential U.S. government personnel and their family members from Jordan on March 2, 2026, due to ongoing security risks. The embassy advised Americans to monitor safety guidance from Jordan's National Center for Security and Crisis Management, avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, stay away from areas with a heavy security presence, follow local media updates, contact airlines directly regarding any flight disruptions, exercise caution at locations associated with the United States, maintain a low profile, and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security alerts and facilitate assistance during emergencies.
