LONDON: The UK government has announced that high-caffeine energy drinks will be banned from sale to children under sixteen in England starting next April.
Officials declared that these powerful beverages have no place in children's hands, initiating a strict nationwide crackdown to protect youth health.
According to recent government data, approximately 100,000 British children consume high-caffeine energy drinks every single day. High consumption is especially prevalent in more deprived communities, where online influencers frequently promote the sugary, high-stimulant brands directly to young demographics.
The upcoming legislation specifically targets any manufactured drinks excluding standard tea and coffee that contain more than 150 milligrams of caffeine per litre.
Medical experts warn that heavy consumption of these products can trigger severe anxiety, disrupt sleep, and harm classroom concentration.
Once enforced, the ban will apply to physical shops, automated vending machines, and online retailers. Local authorities will oversee enforcement, and businesses caught breaking the law will face steep fines of up to £2,500.
