Bangkok : The death toll from the fire at a popular music bar in Bangkok has risen to 32 after two more victims died in hospital, prompting the Thai government to announce stricter safety measures for entertainment venues nationwide.
Thirty people remain in hospital, including 15 in intensive care, while authorities continue investigating the cause of the blaze. Officials believe an electrical short circuit in a ceiling-mounted air-conditioning unit may have triggered the fire, which spread rapidly through the venue.
Investigators are also examining possible safety failures, including reports of blocked emergency exits and the use of highly flammable materials inside the bar. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has ordered a nationwide review of safety standards at entertainment venues to prevent similar tragedies.
