KYIV: Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko resigned on Tuesday as part of a government reshuffle ordered by President Volodymyr Zelensky. Parliament formally approved the resignation during a Tuesday vote, though a permanent replacement has not yet been named.

Zelensky stated the move aims to change the nation’s political strategy to address "new challenges and new tasks". The reshuffle occurs during a pivotal moment in the four-year war against Russia, as Kyiv manages increasing ballistic missile strikes.

Local media identified Naftogaz CEO Sergiy Koretsky as the frontrunner to replace Svyrydenko. Zelensky met with Koretsky recently, praising his "effective leadership" within the energy sector, which remains a critical priority for the country amidst ongoing power grid infrastructure attacks.

Svyrydenko, who served since July 2025, has been offered a new role managing relations with a "key partner," though specific details remain undisclosed.
