California: Twenty-six Meta employees filed a lawsuit in California accusing the company of using discriminatory AI to select workers for mass layoffs following 8,000 job cuts.

Plaintiffs allege the firm's systems bypassed the considered judgment of managers, using algorithms to "score, rank, and select employees" for termination.

The complaint argues this process disproportionately targeted staff on medical or family leave, as they could not accumulate required productivity metrics while away.

Meta strongly denies the allegations. A spokesperson stated that workforce management decisions were made by people, not AI, and that the claims lack factual merit.

This legal challenge arises as Meta pivots toward an AI-focused agenda, with the company planning to invest $145 billion in infrastructure this year.
