Passenger rail services in the UAE have recorded strong early demand, with more than 5,000 passengers booking seats within just two days of ticket sales opening, following the launch of the Etihad Rail booking platform and mobile application.
The Etihad Rail App also became the most downloaded free app in the UAE, reflecting significant public interest ahead of the country’s first passenger rail operations.
The initial passenger service between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah is scheduled to begin on 30 June, marking the start of the Introductory Operational Phase of the UAE’s national rail network.
Less than five years after passenger rail was announced under the UAE’s “Projects of the 50,” customers can now search routes, book tickets, select seats and manage travel through a fully digital platform designed for convenience and flexibility.
The network is set to expand further on 30 September, adding services connecting Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Dhaid and Fujairah. Additional routes, including Al Dhafra Stations and Sharjah, will be introduced in later phases.
Azza Al Suwaidi, Chief Operating Officer at Etihad Rail, said the launch marks a major milestone in the country’s transport development.
“For years, people have watched the railway taking shape across the UAE. Today, they can open an app, buy a ticket and become part of the story themselves,” she said.
Introductory fares on the Abu Dhabi–Fujairah route start from AED 55 in Comfort Class and AED 120 in Premium Class.
Passengers will be able to choose between Comfort and Premium options. Comfort Class includes guaranteed seating, Wi-Fi, power outlets at every seat and ample luggage space, while Premium Class offers wider seating and complimentary refreshments.
Adhraa Al Mansoori, Executive Director of Commercial at Etihad Rail Mobility, said the service is designed to balance affordability and comfort.
“We have designed our offering to provide customers with a combination of affordability, comfort and flexibility, while giving them the freedom to choose the option that best suits their travel needs,” she said.
Passenger rail services will be operated by Etihad Rail Mobility, a joint venture between Etihad Rail and Keolis, combining international rail expertise with local transport knowledge.
