Washington DC: Three candidates backed by New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani won Democratic primary elections for U.S. House seats on Tuesday, according to media projections.
Mamdani, 34, has earned the ‘kingmaker ' title, as these victories highlight the Democratic Party's internal debate between centrist and leftist ahead of the November midterms.
Brad Lander defeated incumbent Daniel Goldman in the 10th Congressional District, while DSA member Darializa Avila Chevalier ousted Adriano Espillat in the 13th District. Additionally, Claire Valdez won the 7th District race, claiming Nydia Velázquez’s seat.
Outside of Mamdani’s endorsements, Jack Schlossberg lost his bid to replace retiring Representative Jerry Nadler in the 12th Congressional District to state assemblyman Micah Lasher.
